Vietnam’s agriculture and environment sector has set an ambitious export target of USD 73–74 billion for agro-forestry and aquatic products in 2026, building on strong performance in 2025 despite global uncertainty. According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, the sector benefits from decades of reform experience and recent agricultural restructuring, which have improved market alignment and diversified export destinations, including growing demand from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East alongside traditional Asian markets.
While challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, biodiversity loss, and stricter international sustainability commitments are expected to intensify, the ministry plans to address them through enhanced resource management, environmental protection, and climate resilience. Key measures include standardising raw-material zones, strengthening food safety and traceability, expanding deep processing, reducing logistics costs, and promoting green, low-emission and circular production models to access higher-value markets.
In 2025, the sector exceeded all government-assigned targets, achieving overall growth of 3.78% and export turnover of USD 70.09 billion—an increase of 12% year-on-year. These results provide a solid foundation for Vietnam to pursue higher export earnings and sustainable agricultural development in 2026.
